HEXAGRAM 55 · Fēng

Abundance

Abundance calls for clarity and openness, since even a peak is already changing.

☳ Above: Zhen · Thunder☲ Below: Li · Fire

Meaning

Thunder and lightning together portray great capacity. The noon sun suggests using brightness widely while remembering that fullness never remains fixed.

FOR REFLECTION

Is present abundance helping me see clearly or concealing what I need to know?

The six lines

Read from line 1 at the bottom to line 6 at the top. These are paraphrases, not verbatim translations.

Line 1 Yang

Meeting a matching partner supports worthwhile action. Equality can enable cooperation if it does not become rivalry.

Line 2 Yin

A thick screen reveals the Dipper at noon, and approach meets suspicion. Sincerity can open what obscures understanding.

Line 3 Yang

Heavy covering reveals small stars at noon; the right arm is broken. With capacity impaired, major action is unsuitable.

Line 4 Yang

The Dipper appears in noon darkness; meeting an equal is favorable. Find a partner who can help clarify the situation and act.

Line 5 Yin

Bright talent arrives, bringing celebration and recognition. Welcome capable people so that abundance serves a purpose.

Line 6 Yin

A grand house is screened and empty, its occupant long unseen. Do not turn abundance into self-imposed isolation.
